Recruitment Director
Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Recruitment Director leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of statewide recruitment initiatives aimed at recruiting a diverse candidate pool for the California fire service. The ideal candidate will have the passion and experience to develop innovative recruitment strategies, propose initiatives that deliver tangible/measurable results, develop potential partnerships, external relationships, and methods for engagement with local communities throughout California. The Recruitment Director will also coordinate with K-12 schools, colleges, community-based organizations, fire agency recruiters, fire department management and labor union leaders to enhance recruitment efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Manages, mentors and provides professional development support to the Cal-JAC Recruitment Manager and Candidate Support Representative.
- Leads the strategic expansion of existing programs including Career Expos, Meet and Greets and Innovation in Recruitment LABs.
- In collaboration with the Education and Training department, the position will supervise the recruitment of cadets for the Pre-Apprenticeship Academies.
- In addition to general recruitment, develop and implement innovative initiatives that increase the effectiveness of recruitment efforts within underserved communities as well as individuals between the 14-22 age.
- Cultivates and manages partnerships with K-12 schools, colleges, community-based organizations, and fire departments.
- Evaluates and responds to requests from schools, fire departments, and community organizations on financial support or recruitment engagement.
- Represents the organization on various external recruitment committees and initiatives such as the Sacramento Regional Diversity Committee.
- Partners with the Communication team to review and approve recruitment-related social media posts and other communications to ensure they are inclusive, culturally competent, and aligned with organizational branding.
- Oversees the Cal-JAC Commission to Recruit Women for the Fire Service and leads the effort to expand reach, including the statewide mentorship program.
- Use data to assess the effectiveness of programs, events, and outreach strategies.
- Develop regular reports and dashboards summarizing key recruitment metrics and program outcomes.
- Tracks community and candidate engagement as it relates to events, contact us forms etc.
- Provides detailed analysis and strategic recommendations to the FCTC Program Director for continuous improvement and long-term planning.
- Develops and implements efficient systems, policies, and workflows to enhance program delivery and internal operations.
- Promotes a collaborative and inclusive team culture aligned with organizational values.
- Stays current on fire agency hiring practices, trends, and obstacles.
- Understands diversity, equity and inclusion as it relates to recruitment and retention.
- Travels to meetings and events as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 4 years of project management experience or 7 years in project management experience
- At least 3+ years leading a small team
- Experience with data analysis and impact reporting
- Ability to build and maintain relationships both internally and with external stakeholders
- Ability to prioritize duties at a high level and meet deadlines
- Self-driven, highly organized, detail oriented.
- An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written skills and willingness to share information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Willingness to travel throughout California for work events (up to 10%)
- Occasional weekend and overnight travel events
Salary range: $95,000 – $110,000
